Security operatives in Delta State have recorded a major breakthrough after arresting two suspected cult members and recovering weapons during coordinated patrols.
SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer for the State Command, said the arrests followed credible intelligence received on November 8, 2025, around 5:35 pm. The information revealed that alleged members of the Eiye Confraternity were gathering at Ojeifo Street by Iduwe in Agbor.
Responding immediately, the Agbor Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, mobilised patrol teams and the Civilian Anti-Cult Unit to the location. The officers arrived quickly and arrested two suspects identified as Agu Nnamdi of Ohumere Quarters and Promise Banco of Iduwe Street, Agbor-Obi.
During the operation, the suspects reportedly hid a locally made pistol in a black nylon bag, but a thorough search by the officers uncovered the weapon. Both suspects are now in police custody as investigations continue and efforts are ongoing to track other members who fled during the raid.
In a separate operation on Sunday morning, surveillance officers from ‘B’ Division, Warri, under CSP Josephine Ekebuike, were on patrol along Arubi Street near Deco Road when they noticed a tricycle rider moving aggressively against traffic with two passengers. The suspicious movement led to a pursuit.
The chase continued into First Marine Quarters, where the rider and passengers abandoned the tricycle and escaped through nearby streets. A search of the tricycle revealed two locally fabricated double-barrelled guns, nine mobile phones, four power banks, and a screwdriver.
The area has since been secured with intensified stop-and-search operations to locate the fleeing suspects and curb further criminal activity.
Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, restated the Command’s commitment to breaking criminal networks, clamping down on cult groups, and reducing the spread of illegal firearms in the State. He encouraged residents to stay alert and assist the police with reliable information, assuring strict confidentiality for all reports.
