Nigerian fintech powerhouse Paystack, part of the Stripe family, has suspended its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following serious sexual misconduct allegations that went viral on social media on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
In a statement to TechCabal, Paystack confirmed the suspension and said a formal investigation has been launched into claims involving a subordinate.
“Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi,” the company said.
“We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation. Out of respect for the individuals involved and to protect the integrity of the process, we will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete.”
The allegations have reignited scrutiny of old tweets by Olubi, dating back to 2009–2013. These posts, some of which reference sexualised comments about colleagues and minors, have sparked widespread outrage online.
One tweet from May 23, 2011, read: “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.”
The resurfacing of these posts, years before Olubi co-founded Paystack, has intensified public debate about workplace behaviour and the responsibilities of senior tech leaders. As of filing, Olubi has not publicly responded to either the allegations or the tweets. He also deactivated his X account on Wednesday, November 13, 2025.
Paystack, founded in 2015 and one of Africa’s most prominent tech firms, became a part of global payments giant Stripe in 2020 through a $200 million acquisition. The company has been influential in shaping the continent’s fintech ecosystem, and many former staff have gone on to launch their own startups.
The situation has drawn attention to governance and accountability in high-profile tech companies, particularly those that promote values such as transparency, communication, and integrity. The case is likely to be closely watched across Africa’s tech industry.
This controversy follows other incidents of misconduct in the region’s tech sector, including the recent case of Kenyan IT CEO Oscar Limoke, who faced legal action over sexual harassment allegations.
Paystack’s handling of the investigation into Olubi’s conduct will be a significant test of the company’s commitment to workplace standards, values, and ethical leadership.
