Tinubu Seeks Speedy Passage of Bill To Establish National Cocoa Management Board

President Bola Tinubu has urged the House of Representatives to give accelerated consideration of the National Cocoa Management Board (Establishment) Bill, 2025, describing it as a crucial step towards revitalising Nigeria’s cocoa industry and strengthening the country’s position in the global market.

The president’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and read on the floor of the House, on Wednesday at Plenary.

According to the president, the proposed law was being presented “Pursuant to Section 58, Sub-section 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.

“I’m pleased to call for the kind consideration by the House of Representatives of the National Cocoa Management Board Establishment Bill, 2025,” the president wrote.

Explaining the purpose of the legislation, President Tinubu stated that the bill seeks to establish a National Cocoa Management Board that will “regulate, promote and harmonise cocoa-related activities across the country and for other connected purposes.”

He noted that the creation of the board would help coordinate the entire cocoa value chain, improve quality standards, and boost Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global cocoa market.

“The establishment of the board will enhance effective coordination of the cocoa value chain, improve standards, and strengthen Nigeria’s participation in the global economy,” the President stated.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in the House’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s agricultural development, urging lawmakers to give the bill urgent attention.

“While I trust that the House will consider the legislation of the bill in an expeditious manner, please accept, Rt. Hon. Speaker, the assurances of my highest regards,” he added.
