Wife of former Nigerian president dies

The family of late former Nigerian President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, has announced the death of his last surviving wife, Hajiya Sutura Shehu Shagari.

She passed away on Monday, November 10, at the age of 89.
The sad news was made known in a statement signed by the late president’s eldest son, Capt. Bala Shagari, who also serves as the Sarkin Mafaran Shagari.

According to him, Hajiya Sutura died around 3 p.m. after a prolonged illness.

Capt. Bala described his late mother as “an embodiment of grace, humility, and quiet strength who lived a life with dignity.”
Hajiya Sutura was known for her calm disposition, humility, and devotion to family.
Those close to her said she stood by her husband through his political journey and remained a symbol of unity and peace within the Shagari family even after his death.

Her passing marks the end of an era for the family of Nigeria’s first executive president

Her death comes just three months after the passing of Chief Audu Ogbeh, who served as Minister of Communications under Shagari’s administration.

Ogbeh died on Saturday, August 9, at 78, with his family describing him as “a man of integrity, service, and dedication.”

The closeness of both deaths has drawn emotional reactions from Nigerians who remember the Shagari administration as a defining period in the nation’s democratic history.
