The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed that he personally confronted former President Muhammadu Buhari after the three-month ultimatum he gave to Nigeria’s service chiefs to end insecurity failed to yield results.
Adeboye recounted how Buhari, during his presidency, had issued a strong directive to his military commanders to eliminate Boko Haram insurgents within 90 days or resign. According to Adeboye, while the order initially inspired hope, it was never enforced when the deadline passed, prompting him to seek a private meeting with the then-president.
“There was a President, unfortunately, he’s dead now, Buhari. Some of you will remember,” Adeboye said. “He called the service chiefs together and said, ‘I give you three months; get rid of all these Boko Haram people, or resign.’ He ran with that advice, but he didn’t follow it through.”
Adeboye revealed that after Buhari’s deadline expired without results, he personally met with the late president to discuss the failure.
“When three months passed and the work wasn’t done, why didn’t you proceed with your threat?” Adeboye recalled asking. “I won’t tell you the details, but one thing came out of that meeting, which will lead me to my next advice.”
The cleric’s call for urgent diplomacy and firm domestic action reflects growing concern that Nigeria’s leadership must act now to restore peace and protect the nation’s sovereignty. His message also carries a moral weight, urging both the government and military to rise above politics and personal interests in defence of innocent lives.
