The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the proactive approach of the Nigeria Police Force towards the investigation of the extra-judicial killings of seven innocent natives of Akinlalu, a town in the Ife-North Local Government Council Area of the state by suspected Amotekun corps personnel.
It would be recalled that on October 1, Amotekun operatives invaded Akinlalu community, which led the killing of seven persons and injuring several others.
Reacting to the arrest of some personnel of the Amotekun corps by the police, APC in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, lauded the proactiveness of the Nigeria Police to unravel the circumstances that led to the killing of the innocent people of the sleepy town.
According to the party, Amotekun outfit has been repeatedly accused of running illegal underground cells where citizens are allegedly tortured and unlawfully detained.
The opposition party said it has gathered that the Osun Amotekun Commandant Omoyel, is currently on the run to evade police interrogation over his alleged involvement in the Akinlalu massacre and the recent claim by Omoyele that he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by police operatives.
“The question is: If Omoyele has no skeleton in his cupboard, why is he evading the police invitation by staging his attack by those he tagged as uniformed gun men at the Kobongbogboe area of Osogbo, the state capital, about three days ago?
“Why was the head of Amotekun corps moving around without his usual security guards at such odd hour of 10:30pm on the day his phoney attack was staged?
“Assuming without conceding that the Amotekun Commandant was truly attacked, what was the propriety of his moving about in his personal car without human security by such unholy hour of the evening?
“Omoyele should explain to the discerning members of the society why his phoney attack coincided with the time he was invited by the Osun State Police Command to come forward with a proof of his allegation of being attacked.
“Our own observation about the development is that Omoyele was only trying to be clever by half in order to escape investigation on a case he was said to be expressly complicit.
“We are imploring the Inspector-General of Police to delve into the matter and ensure that the armed political hoodlums who have been terrorising the people of the state under the nomenclature of Amotekun corps are diligently prosecuted and face the legal penalty that is commensurate with the offences committed.
“The Police should intensify their dragnet for smoking out, without further delay, the Commandant of the Osun Amotekun corps, from anywhere he may be hiding”.
