Nnaji Denies Falsification Of Certificate Amidst Resignation

Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, has denied allegations of falsification of certificate.

In a statement, Nnaji explained that his decision to step down followed “deep reflection and consultations with family, associates, and well-meaning Nigerians.” He claimed that his exit was necessitated by an “orchestrated sustained campaign of falsehood, politically motivated, and malicious attacks” targeted at his person and office. These attacks, he said, had not only caused him personal distress but had also begun to distract from the vital work of the ministry and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Nnaji maintained that his resignation was not an admission of guilt but a principled decision to respect the sanctity of due process and preserve the integrity of the judicial proceedings currently before the court. “My decision to step aside is therefore a personal choice — not an admission of guilt, but rather a principled decision to respect the sanctity of due process and to preserve the integrity of the judicial proceedings currently before the court,” he stated.

The former minister expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him and for the privilege to serve, pledging continued loyalty to the administration’s vision for a “renewed, innovative, and technologically driven Nigeria.” He emphasized that his reputation had been built over five decades anchored on hard work, honour, and service to humanity.

Nnaji’s resignation was confirmed by the Presidency on Tuesday, with President Tinubu accepting his resignation and thanking him for his service.

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, had formally disowned the Bachelor of Science degree certificate being paraded by Nnaji, stating that he never graduated from the institution and was never issued such a document.
