Tiwa Savage Opens Up on Davido, Wizkid Dispute

Nigerian singer and songwriter , Tiwatope Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage has broken her silence on lingering controversies involving fellow artist Davido and addressed persistent speculation about her relationship with Wizkid.

In a new interview with The Breakfast Club on Tuesday, Savage spoke candidly about the December 2023 fallout with Davido, clarifying that the disagreement stemmed from a misunderstanding rather than a serious conflict.

The tension reportedly began after Savage posted an Instagram story featuring Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama. According to the singer, the post was innocent, as their children have been friends since infancy and attend the same school.

“Our kids are friends, and they’ve gone to the same school since they were one. They’re 10 now. I’ve known David before that, but I naturally grew a relationship with the mother of their kid. And I didn’t really know there were issues,” she explained.

Savage revealed that Davido misinterpreted the post as a slight, leading to a heated exchange. She claimed the singer sent her derogatory messages and warned her to “be careful in Lagos,” which she interpreted as a threat. As a precaution, she filed a police petition over the alleged threats.

“I don’t think he was ever going to carry it out. David is such a joyful person, and I know he didn’t mean it the way it sounded,” she said, stressing that her actions were taken to ensure safety. “I reached out to members of his family before I did anything… I just wanted to ensure safety for everyone involved, and that’s why I filed a petition. It wasn’t about revenge.”

Despite the fallout, Savage said there is no hostility between them. “I want everyone to know there’s no bad blood. I haven’t spoken to him, but I love him, and I always put our kids first. That’s what matters,” she added.

The singer also spoke about Wizkid, stating clearly that their relationship is purely professional and respectful. “Shout out to Wizkid. I love Wizkid. I respect Wizkid. It’s not about him,” she clarified.

She further explained that a “secret relationship” she had previously spoken about involved another public figure, not Wizkid. The relationship, she said, had been emotionally damaging and impacted her confidence and music.

“At the time, I didn’t see how bad it was. It chipped away at my confidence, and it comes through in my music. I hadn’t even been able to perform that song because of how it made me feel. It’s embarrassing to think I let that happen,” she admitted.

Reflecting on the experience, Savage described it as both painful and transformative. “It was tough… but it shaped my music and brought authenticity to the themes of love, heartbreak, and faith in my work,” she said.
