Nasarawa state government says it was considering to acquire drones and install Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTV) to checkmate criminal activities in some parts of the state.
Consequently, the government said it was commitment to supporting security agencies with technological gadgets to strengthen their operations in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor Abdullahi Sule on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, stated this at a bimonthly press conference on Thursday in Lafia.
He disclosed that the state government had already engaged a reputable security firm, and had reached appreciable level of discussions on the number and the quality of security gadgets to complement the current efforts of the security agencies in the state.
The governor’s aid explained that the installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in some strategic areas and the use of drones would assist in checkmating kidnappings and other crimes in all parts of the state.
Commenting on the complaint by members of the public over snatching of handsets, and motorcycles and bags by hoodlums around the Lafia flyover/underpass, the SSA said that the government had deployed Nasarawa Youths Empowerment Agency (NAYEA) personnel to man the area and with the view to rid the place of criminal elements.
He called on politicians to desist from premature campaigns for the governor’s senatorial ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the governor was at the moment concentrating on delivering on his four-year mandate and had not declared an intention to contest any election in 2027 despite calls by different groups from Nasarawa North Senatorial District.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) disclosed that the state government, through the Universal Basic Education Board, had revoked nine contracts for the construction of schools project Over shoddy work, adding that the government had purchased 16 000 plastic and wooden chairs to be distributed to Primary Schools across the state to enhance condusive learning environment.
