First Lady Launches N1bn Women Economic Empowerment Programme in Nasarawa

Wife of Nigeria’s president, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has launched the N1bn women economic empowerment programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative/Tony Elumelu Foundation for 18, 000 business women across the nation.

The empowerment programme which targets 18, 000 women across the country would benefit 500 women in each of the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) where 500 beneficiary would received N50, 000 each to strengthen their existing businesses.

Speaking at the launch of the programme on Tuesday in Lafia, Sen. Oluremi said that the economic Empowerment Programme is aimed at supporting the entrepreneurial spirit of women traders and small-scale business owners who wake up each day determined to provide for their families, educate their children, and uplift their communities where each beneficiary would received N50, 000.

Represented by the wife of the deputy governor of Nasarawa state, Mrs Tosin Akabe, Sen Oluremi emphasized that the money which is a grant and a seed of renewed hope extended to the beneficiaries to help recapitalize their existing businesses.

She expressed the belief that ” when you empower a woman, you empower a household, a community, and indeed, a nation” and lauded the Tony Elumelu Foundation for the donation of the N1bn to the Renewed Hope Initiative.

According to her, the money is to directly support 18,500 women across the nation with each of the 500 beneficiary from each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will receive N50,000 to recapitalize their existing small businesses.

Mrs Oluremi thanked the wife of the Nasarawa State governor, Hajiya Salifat Abdullahi Sule A. Sule for her support in executing all programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative in the state.
