Students build functional electric cars in Sokoto

Jubilations in the Seat of Caliphate, Sokoto, as a team of fifteen graduating students of Brilliant Footsteps International Academy designed and developed a functioning electric vehicle.

This recent innovation has become a source of discussion among residents of the state.

The students were supported by Brilliant Maglush Tahafiz to successfully achieve their desire in building the vehicle.

The potential engineers, comprising 10 girls and 5 boys, worked in synergy towards achieving a prospective goal.

During a press briefing on Saturday, some students of the college shared details about the breakthrough.

Dr. Shadi Sabey, the Managing Director of the academy, described the project as a breakthrough not just for the students, but for the mindset it cultivates.

Sabey stated that the students used local raw materials to build the vehicle, saying that this enabled the inventors to solve practical problems related to vehicles.

“They used local raw materials. They solved practical problems. This isn’t about copying. It’s about creating,” he said.

“What you see here is a paradigm shift — a sign that the future of innovation can emerge from places the world doesn’t always expects”.

The students, who were mainly teenage girls, were students of Brilliant Academy Sokoto.

“We want to show that girls can build too. Technology is not just for boys.”

The students have exhibited a sense of academic excellence in science and technology and have even built cars to showcase their level of professionalism and compete in the world of innovation.

The leading team student, Ayman Shadi, explained how the team came up with the concept, developed the electrical framework, and combined mechanical parts.

“Many of which were sourced or repurposed locally. It took them months — but they did it. A working electric car, built from scratch by young hands in a classroom in northern Nigeria.”

“The battery life is impressive,” he added.

“Four hours of full charge gives it smooth drive time,” he said, beaming with pride.

“We’re working on increasing the range.”
