The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has praised the peaceful conduct of the local government elections held across the state on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Speaking from the state command headquarters in Ikeja, Jimoh highlighted the high level of compliance with the restriction on vehicular movement, which he said helped maintain security and order.
“Nobody was arrested for violating the restriction; we appreciate all residents and visitors for complying,” he stated. “This gave us full control of the security situation.”
Jimoh expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, for providing all necessary logistics and resources that ensured smooth security operations throughout the exercise.
He emphasized that there were no incidents of violence reported from any part of Lagos. “We visited major flashpoints like Mushin, Ikorodu, FESTAC, Alimosho, Agege, Surulere, and Ikeja—no threats or disruptions occurred,” he said.
Commending the professionalism of police personnel, Jimoh noted, “Our officers were polite yet firm, and they ensured full compliance with electoral guidelines.”
The police commissioner also thanked officers for their dedication, saying their sacrifice was key to maintaining the peaceful atmosphere across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the state.
This commendation stands in contrast to concerns raised earlier in the day about low voter turnout and logistical delays in certain areas. Nevertheless, the general security environment was lauded by authorities and observers alike.
