2027 Elections: INEC Launches Online Voter Registration in Akwa Ibom This August

INEC has announced that online voter registration for Akwa Ibom residents will commence on August 18, 2025, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to begin online Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Akwa Ibom State starting August 18, 2025, as part of its preparation for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at his first media briefing at the INEC state headquarters in Uyo, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Obo Effanga, revealed that the registration will follow a similar process used before the 2023 elections.

“From August 18, eligible voters will be able to pre-register online using the INEC portal,” Effanga said. “They will only need to come physically for biometric capture — fingerprints and photographs — to complete the process.”

The online portal will also support services including Change of voting location (transfer), Correction of personal data on the voter’s card, Request for reissuance of lost or damaged cards and Migration between polling units.

For those without internet access, physical registration will begin August 25, 2025, at INEC offices across the 31 local government areas in the state.

Effanga cautioned the public against multiple registrations, noting that anyone who attempts to register more than once may have their record invalidated. He advised individuals with lost PVCs to visit INEC offices for reprinting instead of starting a new registration.

“This exercise gives everyone a fair chance to vote in 2027. Please complete your online registration and show up at our office for final verification,” he added.

The voter registration drive is a critical opportunity for citizens to participate in shaping Nigeria’s democracy. Residents are encouraged to take full advantage of this process before the elections draw closer.
