The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two suspects believed to be members of a motorcycle theft ring operating across state lines. The arrests were made in separate operations conducted within Akko Local Government Area, where three stolen motorcycles were also recovered.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the breakthrough came following a tip-off from a concerned member of the public. Acting on this information, officers from Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madawaki, stormed a criminal hideout in Tudun Hayin Kwarai, Misau, and arrested the suspects.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as 25-year-old Misba’u Adamu from Alkaleri in Bauchi State and 28-year-old Adamu Ibrahim from Garko in Kano State. During interrogation, both suspects reportedly admitted to breaking into the home of one Mohammed Usman in Hayin Kwarin-Misau at around 4:00 a.m. on July 6.
They confessed to stealing two motorcycles: a Qlink Cassie with registration number ABC 484 WN and a Hero Hunter bearing the plate GME 36 QL. The total value of the motorcycles is estimated to be ₦1.8 million. Police investigations revealed the bikes were hidden in the residence of another individual known only as Babangida. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the gang leader and other accomplices.
In a separate development that same day, a third motorcycle was recovered during a routine night patrol in the Wuro Birji area. Around 1:00 a.m., police officers spotted a man riding a black Jincheng Kasea motorcycle with registration number DKU 099 UK. Upon seeing the patrol team, the man abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot. Despite efforts, officers were unable to apprehend him, but the abandoned bike was recovered and is now in police custody.
DSP Abdullahi assured the public that investigations are still ongoing to identify the fleeing suspect and locate the rightful owner of the abandoned motorcycle. He also urged residents to continue providing helpful information that could aid in combating criminal activities across the state.
