Popular Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga, widely known as M.I, has admitted he made a wrong political call by supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 elections.
Speaking candidly on the Menism podcast, the award-winning artiste said his support for APC at the time was driven by frustration with the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he saw as deeply corrupt.
“I was among those who raised their voices, saying let’s bring change through democracy,” he shared.
However, ten years later, M.I has had a change of heart.
“APC today is not the APC I dreamed of. I was wrong,” he confessed.
M.I emphasized that, like any human, he’s made errors despite good intentions. He no longer argues on Twitter or Instagram about politics but has chosen a more action-based approach to contributing to national development.
“Even though I feel the pain of what’s happening in the country, I now focus on real solutions rather than online complaints,” he explained, referring to recent backlash he got after tweeting about the Benue attacks.
As someone working in the creative sector, the ‘African Rapper No. 1’ believes that the industry holds the power to transform lives.
“If the government can’t create jobs, we can still create opportunities for young people through creativity,”he concluded.
