Operatives comprising men of the Nigeria Police Force and National Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), have taken over National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday morning.
The heavily armed officers and men who arrived as early as 8:30 am in about 10 trucks, cordoned off the roads leading to the secretariat, and said they were there to maintain law and order.
They chased away scores of youths suspected to be thugs who had surrounded the premises.
Members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) who have gathered to hold their scheduled meeting, were prevented from meeting.
The two factions of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) had scheduled to hold separate meetings at the PDP Secretariat today.
But the security operatives said they were instructed not to allow any meeting to hold at the party’s national secretariat.
While the faction led by the acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum called for an expanded National Caucus, the other group made up of 11 NWC members, and is led by Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeak Arapaja, said the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will go ahead as scheduled.
BoT members who had already gathered, later held a quick meeting before leaving the secretariat to undisclosed location.
