Rep Atu Equips Enugu Schools with Mobile Smart Labs to Boost Science Learning

Hon. Chimaobi Atu transforms science education in Enugu North/South with mobile laboratories, offering students hands-on experience with over 220 experiments in line with SSCE curriculum.

In a powerful step toward revitalizing science education in Enugu, Hon. Chimaobi Atu, the member representing Enugu North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has launched mobile smart science laboratories across three public secondary schools in the area.

The schools—Comprehensive Secondary School in Akwuke, Community Secondary School in Ugwuaji, and Day Secondary School in Independence Layout—now have access to fully equipped laboratories designed to support over 220 science experiments aligned with the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) curriculum.

Atu explained that the idea was born out of concern after personally visiting several public schools in his constituency and discovering the shocking state of science facilities. Many of these schools either had poorly maintained labs or none at all. He emphasized that this pilot phase was just the beginning, with plans to expand the initiative to the 24 remaining public schools in his constituency.

During the unveiling ceremonies, he expressed deep commitment to empowering the younger generation through quality education. He described the students as some of the brightest minds deserving of modern tools and opportunities that would prepare them to compete globally. According to him, this intervention is more than a donation; it is a legacy that generations will remember.

The principals of the beneficiary schools welcomed the gesture with joy and gratitude. Mrs. Stella Ogbonnia, Principal of Comprehensive Secondary School, Akwuke, said she had never witnessed such innovation before and believed the new lab would motivate more students to pursue science-related subjects. Science teachers were equally excited. Mrs. Nneoma Okoro from Community Secondary School, Ugwuaji, described the lab as a game-changer that would completely transform the teaching and learning experience by making science more practical and engaging.

Students who spoke during the event couldn’t hide their enthusiasm. Emeka Onyeji, a student from Day Secondary School, shared how the new lab had rekindled his passion for science, while Chiamaka Nwosu from Akwuke said she could now grasp scientific concepts much better through hands-on experience.

Senior Prefects from the schools also expressed appreciation, noting how the innovation would uplift the academic performance of science students and boost their confidence in external examinations. They thanked Rep Atu for thinking about their future and providing resources that would otherwise be unavailable.

Traditional Ruler of Akwuke Uwani Community, Igwe C.A. Ekwomchi, who was also present at the unveiling, assured the lawmaker that the community would protect and maintain the new facilities to ensure they remain beneficial to students for years to come.

This initiative by Rep Atu sends a strong message that when leaders prioritize the right things, quality education becomes more than a promise—it becomes reality.
