JNI Urges Peace, Devotion as Muslims Welcome Islamic New Year 1447AH

As Muslims worldwide mark the beginning of the Islamic Year 1447AH, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) calls for peace, devotion, and fasting, with emphasis on global stability and national prayers.

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has sent heartfelt greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and beyond as the new Islamic year, Muharram 1447AH, begins.

In a message released on Thursday from Kaduna, Prof. Khalid Aliyu, the Secretary-General of JNI, described the sacred month of Muharram as one of the four holy months in Islam where violence and vices are strictly forbidden.

He emphasized the spiritual significance of Muharram, especially the Tasu’a and ‘Ashura fasting days, scheduled for July 4th and 5th, citing the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) who ranked fasting in Muharram as the most rewarding after Ramadan.

Prof. Aliyu also conveyed a special message from the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, appealing to world leaders to step back from escalating tensions—particularly the Iran-Israel conflict—in pursuit of global peace and harmony.

JNI urged Muslims to intensify prayers for Nigeria’s peace, security, and progress, while also remembering the plight of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) around the world.

“This new year is a moment of rededication to Allah, commitment to peace, and striving for positive change. It is a time for piety, respect for authority, and prayerful reflection,” Aliyu said.

The organization called on the faithful to seek Allah’s forgiveness and remain law-abiding, God-conscious, and united in promoting the values of Islam.

Prof. Aliyu concluded with a prayer that the new year brings prosperity, blessings, and stability to Muslims everywhere.
