The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially begun processing requests from 110 groups seeking to become registered political parties — including the much-talked-about All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
This fresh move comes just a day after INEC had announced that ADA, which is backed by a coalition of opposition voices, hadn’t yet met all the requirements for registration. Now, the party is back on the radar and being considered along with others.
In a statement released on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, confirmed that the commission is reviewing applications from all 110 associations that have submitted letters of intent.
“As of Monday, June 23, 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” the statement read.
He added that all the requests — except for six very recent ones — have already been acknowledged, and the rest will be addressed before the end of the week.
INEC also reminded Nigerians, especially groups looking to form political parties, that the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022) handbook is available on the Commission’s official website.
With the 2027 general elections slowly approaching, it looks like Nigeria’s political scene may be getting even more crowded.
