Olisa Metuh Confirms Omokri Hired Showunmi for Atiku’s 2019 Campaign

Former PDP spokesman Olisa Metuh confirms Reno Omokri’s claim of hiring Segun Showunmi for Atiku’s 2019 presidential campaign.

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, has backed Reno Omokri’s claim that Segun Showunmi was hired as spokesperson to Atiku Abubakar during the 2019 presidential campaign — and that Omokri made the hire based on his recommendation.

Speaking with a reporter on Tuesday morning, Metuh explained the events that led to the decision:

“It happened in 2018 when I was still in politics. Reno called me to recommend someone for Atiku. I initially thought of Deji Adeyanju, but I remembered he had left PDP. Then I remembered Segun, so I recommended him to Reno. He called Reno, and that was it.”

Metuh added that there was “absolutely no controversy” surrounding how Showunmi got the role, and that both Showunmi and Omokri are no longer in PDP as far as he knows.

This comes after Omokri had said on The Honest Bunch podcast that he negotiated Showunmi’s salary, conducted a phone interview from California, and confirmed the hire with Atiku.

“If I’m nothing else, I’m a meticulous record keeper,” Omokri said, warning against attempts to “deny the obvious truth.”

In response to the claims, Showunmi dismissed Omokri’s version of events as “rubbish,” but has yet to offer further comments or respond to messages and calls as of press time.

The exchange has stirred renewed attention to internal PDP dynamics and raised questions about loyalty, recognition, and political narratives ahead of future elections.
