The Peoples’ Democratic Party flag bearer in the 2023 governorship election in Lagos State, Mr Abdulazeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, on Tuesday gave a reason why the Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu prevail against him and other contestants in the election.
He made the statements while addressing journalists during a courtesy call at Lagos House, Ikeja, when he paid a courtesy visit on the Governor.
Olajide described the meeting with Sanwo-Olu as “fantastic”, saying: “Mr Governor is very warm. I have said it again that he is actually a gentle man.
“There is nothing I didn’t do to provoke him. I poked him poked him. There is nothing I didn’t do to provoke him. But he stayed calm. This is one of the reason why he retain the seat as governor of Lagos State. So, I appreciate him, I need to thank him for this reception and all members of his cabinet too.
The party executive, especially its chairman who actually led this delegation. I Say thank you to Mr Governor.”
Jandor also explained that the purpose of the meeting was to officially inform the Governor of his return to the ruling APC from the opposition PDP and see how stakeholders could pull their numerical strength together and ensure that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returns for a second term contract in 2027.
In his words: “I am sure it’s no longer news that Jandor has returned to his original political family. I announced that about a month ago. We also had the declaration at the local government level, which is the ideal thing to do after returning to the party. We had that on Friday.
“The next thing to do is to pay the number one citizen of the state an official visit to inform him of our return to the party.
“So, my visit here today is to meet the State governor with a few members of my team and report to him how far we have come in the process of us returning back to the APC.
Asked what Lagosians should expect, Jandor said: “I think I have said that over and over again. You will see us joining our numerical strength to the existing one of the political party which will now strengthen the winning chances of the party.
He added: “We all knew what happened during the last election. It was because the house is actually divided. But now we are together and we are back and we want to see first, how we can use our numerical strength to rally round the younger generation and see how we can return Mr President back to office in 2027 so that we can pass on the baton to the younger generation.
“I have said it over and over again, that if we make that mistake and allow another bus generation to come into that space, we are going to wait for another eight years, if not 16 years.
“So, for us, we are determined. We are going to do everything within our power to campaign vigorously for him and speak to his effort in giving Nigeria a stable country for the first time.”
