MTN Nigeria to Empower Grassroots Changemakers in Plateau

MTN Nigeria has launched its “Go Make A Difference” (Go MAD) campaign in Plateau State to empower underserved communities through improved connectivity, mobile money access, and grassroots engagement.

The initiative, which began in Jos on Friday, is aimed at supporting individuals making meaningful contributions to their communities while broadening access to essential digital and financial services.

MTN’s Manager for Sales and Trade Development in Plateau and Bauchi States, Nkechi Fred-Onyia described the campaign as a strategic effort to deepen digital inclusion, empower young innovators, and spotlight changemakers across the state.

“As you all know, MTN is everywhere you go, and with that comes the responsibility to change lives. Through the Go MAD campaign, we are moving from one location to the next to identify individuals who are making a difference.

“In these challenging times, we want to use our platform and data services to support them. We want to say: ‘We see what you do, we understand what you do, and we are here for you,’” she said.

Fred-Onyia said the campaign particularly targets young people in Plateau, where the creative and entertainment industries are gradually rebounding. She noted that network coverage and service availability have also been significantly improved across the state.

“Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, and they form a large part of our audience. With the right connectivity and affordable data, they can turn their talents into livelihoods—whether as influencers, creatives, or entrepreneurs.

“We listened to the complaints about connectivity. Today, MTN has expanded its presence to every local government in Plateau. Our outlets are now closer to the people and serve as one-stop shops for all customer needs,” she explained.

She added that MTN’s mobile money services have made inroads into rural communities, offering easy access to banking, money transfers, and financial inclusion.

Fred-Onyia praised the large turnout at the Jos launch, describing the community’s response as a sign of strong interest in initiatives that promote empowerment and connection.

“This is not a one-off event. Go MAD is a continuous campaign. We’ll keep going from place to place, identifying talents and helping them thrive,” she emphasized.

As part of the Jos activation, MTN hosted a motivational gathering featuring three exceptional Nigerians who have demonstrated resilience and innovation, leveraging MTN’s services to drive social impact.

These included Lisha Seleme Dachor, a 23-year-old nail artist and beauty content creator who recently set a Guinness World Record for the longest marathon painting of artificial nails; Adukwu Emmanuel Ogbole, CEO of Mees Palace Football Academy, which has trained and sponsored over 120 youths; and Dikwa Suleiman Mohammed, a climate change expert and founder of Green Sahara Farms.

Each of them shared how MTN’s digital services have helped amplify their work, increase visibility, and empower them to make lasting impact in their communities.
