Kogi Governor Bans Convoys, Public Gatherings Ahead Of Senator Natasha’s Homecoming

Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has imposed a ban on convoy movements and public gatherings across the state, citing security concerns. However, the decision has sparked widespread criticism, with many viewing it as an attempt to prevent celebrations marking the homecoming of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The directive was issued on Monday through a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo. According to the government, intelligence reports indicated that some individuals were planning to stage violent demonstrations under the guise of political and religious activities.
As part of the measures, the state government has:
– Prohibited all rallies and public gatherings until further notice.

– Restricted security convoys entering the state without prior clearance from relevant authorities.

– Suspended fishing activities in Kogi Local Government Area following recent violence that resulted in two deaths.

– Deployed security personnel to ensure compliance and maintain law and order.
The government has urged residents to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities, assuring that the restrictions are temporary and aimed at safeguarding public safety.
Despite these assurances, the ban has drawn strong reactions, particularly from supporters of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who see it as a political maneuver to suppress opposition. Many have vowed to find alternative ways to celebrate her return.
