The Senate has entered a closed session to deliberate on President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara along with other elected officials.
The closed session was announced shortly after Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Tinubu’s letter on the matter during plenary on Thursday.
Following the reading, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion for a closed session, citing Order 135 of the Senate Rules. The motion was seconded by Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro.
The deliberations are expected to shape the Senate’s stance on the emergency rule, which requires two-thirds approval of the National Assembly to take effect.
