Top Nigerian Senator Disbarred in U.S. Over Alleged Multi-Million Dollar Fraud

Chairman of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Ethics, Neda Imasuen, has been permanently disbarred from practicing law in New York over allegations of fraud and gross misconduct, according to documents obtained by *Peoples Gazette*.
Imasuen was reportedly stripped of his legal license after he was accused of defrauding a client, Daphne Shyfield, by collecting legal fees without fulfilling his obligations. A New York court officer confirmed that Imasuen accepted a substantial payment in 2009 but failed to represent Shyfield in court, violating the state’s bar regulations.
Despite multiple petitions and official notices from the New York Grievance Committee, Imasuen neither responded nor requested an extension, effectively ignoring the disciplinary process. Instead, he fled to Nigeria, leaving his client without legal representation.
Following repeated unsuccessful attempts to obtain a response, the Grievance Committee for the Second, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Judicial Districts permanently revoked his legal license on May 10, 2010.
A court ruling stated: *“Neda B. Imasuen, admitted as Neda Bernards Imasuen, is disbarred, and his name is stricken from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law.”*
The ruling further prohibited Imasuen from engaging in any legal practice, barring him from appearing before any court or public authority in any legal capacity.
