Lagos Pastor Arrested Over Missing Graduate As Police Probe Financial Transactions

A Lagos-based pastor, Superintendent Evangelist Whepetoji Babaniyeh of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of 28-year-old Ogunbode Quadri Adedamola.
Adedamola, a 2024 graduate of Political Science Education from Lagos State University (LASU) and owner of Horlar Edu Consultancy, was last seen on January 16, 2025, near the Ileri Oluwa Parish of the CCC at LASU 2.
According to a family source, the missing graduate was on a call with his girlfriend when he mentioned being near the church. He reportedly said someone from inside had called him before the line went dead, marking the last time he was heard from.
Despite being taken into custody, Babaniyeh has not confessed to any involvement in Adedamola’s disappearance or disclosed his whereabouts. However, an online personality known as Authentic Auntie Adunni alleged that financial records linked the pastor to suspicious transactions from Adedamola’s account. Police investigations reportedly uncovered a N1.5 million transfer to Babaniyeh on the same day the young man went missing, with additional payments traced to the pastor’s child.
Further claims suggest that Adedamola may have been killed and buried within the church premises, though his family refutes these allegations, stating that there is no confirmed evidence of his death.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has denied knowledge of the case, stating, “We have no such report.”
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover the truth behind Adedamola’s disappearance.
