Atiku slams Tinubu over Lagos Assembly imbroglio

The drama in Lagos politics just hit another level, and Atiku Abubakar is not here for it! The former Vice President and PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate has come out swinging at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the ongoing crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In a fiery statement issued on Thursday through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku described the situation as a brutal “assault on democracy” and a dangerous throwback to the military era.

The Lagos Assembly has been a hot mess lately, with lawmakers at each other’s throats over who should be in charge. Just when it looked like Mudashiru Obasa was out and Hon. Mojisola Meranda had made history as the first female Speaker, the political chess game took a dark turn.

According to Atiku, the real puppet master behind the scenes is none other than Tinubu himself. He accused Mr. President of using “backdoor tactics” and unleashing security operatives to force a reversal of the Assembly’s decision. If true, that’s some serious strong-arm politics right there!

And Atiku didn’t stop there. He pointed to former Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai’s recent claims that Tinubu is all about “selective machine politics,” saying the Lagos Assembly chaos only proves El-Rufai right.

The big question is: why is Tinubu keeping mum on all this? Atiku thinks the silence is telling. In his words, “His refusal to address the crisis suggests a tacit endorsement of the anti-democratic maneuvers aimed at imposing his preferred candidate.” Ouch! That’s a straight-up call-out!

Atiku also drew a sharp contrast between the Yoruba philosophy of Omoluabi—a value system rooted in integrity, fairness, and public service—and what he called the “Area Boy politics” currently playing out in Lagos.
