National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Rofiat Lawal has been abducted by unidentified gunmen along the Benin-Ore Expressway. Lawal, who serves in Ibadan, Oyo State, was en route from Benin, Edo State, to her primary assignment location in Ogbomosho when the kidnapping occurred. The assailants are reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦20 million for her release.
A close friend of Lawal, identified as Agbakwara, shared the harrowing news on Facebook, stating, “My close friend, Lawal Rofiat Kofoworola, was kidnapped on her way from Benin to Ibadan to resume her PPA in Ogbomosho.” Agbakwara further revealed that Lawal managed to make a brief call, indicating she was taken while on a bus heading towards Ore.
Lawal’s abduction highlights the ongoing security challenges along the Benin-Ore Expressway, a route notorious for such incidents. In a similar case, five NYSC members were kidnapped along the Benin-Owo Expressway in July 2024 but were later rescued by the Ondo State Police Command.
