Tinubu Meets Fubara, Ogoni Leaders at State House

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a meeting with Ogoni leaders and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the State House, Abuja. The meeting began at 2:37 pm and includes traditional rulers, clergy, and political leaders.

The discussions are expected to focus on the possible resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland and progress on the ongoing cleanup of the region. The federal government has raised concerns about the long halt in oil activities in Ogoniland, which has affected the country’s economy, especially during the current energy crisis caused by the removal of oil subsidies.

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku, noted that unresolved issues have cost Nigeria significant revenue over the years.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, joined the meeting after it had started.

Key figures at the meeting include Senator Magnus Abe, Senator Lee Maeba, Chief Victor Giadom, Monsignor Pius Kii, Leedom Mitee, and others. Representing the federal government are National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Information Idris Mohammed, Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas, and NNPC Group CEO Mele Kyari.
