NFF Names Rabiu Ali, Alimi, Manyo,  15 Others for Ghana Clash

Stand-in Head Coach Daniel Ogunmodede has unveiled an 18-man squad for Nigeria’s Super Eagles B as they prepare to face Ghana’s Black Galaxies in the first leg of the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying match. The much-anticipated encounter will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali headlines the squad, which also includes wing-back Ismail Sadiq, centre-back Stephen Manyo, midfielders Musa Zayyad and Jide Fatokun, and forwards Anas Yusuf and Sikiru Alimi. Goalkeeper Henry Ozoemena, defender Victor Collins, and forward Abubakar Adamu have also been called up for the crucial two-legged tie.

The Super Eagles B squad, under the guidance of Ogunmodede and his assistants Fidelis Ilechukwu and Olatunji Baruwa, has been in intensive training for over three weeks at the Remo Stars Sports Institute, Ikenne-Remo, following preliminary sessions in October.

The first leg of the tie is set to kick off at 4 p.m. local time in Ghana (5 p.m. in Nigeria). Meanwhile, Nigeria’s U17 girls will simultaneously battle Ghana’s U17 side in the inaugural WAFU B U17 Cup final at the Ghana Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

This fixture marks another chapter in the storied rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana. However, the Super Eagles have enjoyed dominance over their West African neighbors in recent months. In 2024 alone, Nigeria recorded a 2-1 victory over Ghana in a senior-level friendly in Morocco and defeated the Black Satellites at U17 and U20 levels in WAFU B tournaments.

Sunday’s match will be officiated by Togolese referee Aklesso Gnama, with assistants Jonathan Ahonto Koffi and Wassiou Tchamolla Ourotou, alongside fourth official Kossi Fabrice Senyo. Liberian Ivan Gartor Brown has been appointed as the match commissioner, while Hugues Alain Adjovi from Benin Republic will serve as the referee assessor.

The return leg is scheduled for Saturday, December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. The aggregate winner will secure a ticket to the 8th African Nations Championship, set to hold in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda from February 1 to 28, 2025.
