Trump Pledges to End Birthright Citizenship in the US

President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to abolish birthright citizenship, a provision of the 14th Amendment that grants citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil.

In his first televised interview since his November election victory, Trump reiterated to NBC his commitment to deporting undocumented immigrants, including those with family members who are U.S. citizens.

“We’re going to have to get it changed. We’ll maybe have to go back to the people, but we have to end it,” he stated.

He also expressed his readiness to work with Democrats to support “Dreamers,” young undocumented immigrants who were brought to the US as children.

Trump further revealed that he would pursue pardons for those convicted in relation to the 2021 US Capitol riot once he takes office next month.

He criticized the conditions faced by those incarcerated for their involvement, calling them “filthy” and “disgusting.”

“These people are living in hell, I’ll be acting very quickly, first day,” he said.
