Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has been granted bail by the Ekiti State High Court.
The court set bail at ₦50 million, with a surety required to provide the same amount and own a landed property. The case was adjourned to January 29, 2025, for further proceedings.
Farotimi was arrested by the Ekiti State Police Command following a defamation complaint by 95-year-old Chief Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. The allegations stem from claims made in Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.
The arrest sparked nationwide outrage, with civil society groups and the Nigerian Bar Association demanding his release.
