Police Escort ‘Accidentally Shoots’ Taraba Governor’s Sister During Gunmen Attack

Atsi Kefas, sister to Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, was reportedly shot by a police escort during a gunmen attack on Thursday.

The incident occurred along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area, according to reports by Zagazola Makama, a publication specializing in counter-insurgency in the Lake Chad region. Governor Kefas’s mother, Jumai, and Atsi were ambushed by the gunmen while traveling.

In a bid to repel the attackers, a police officer assigned to escort the family reportedly “accidentally shot” Atsi.

Troops swiftly intervened, rescuing the victims and evacuating them using an air ambulance. Both Jumai and Atsi Kefas were transported to a medical facility for treatment. However, Atsi’s condition remains undisclosed at the time of filing this report.

Security forces have recovered the vehicle used by the assailants, along with an empty magazine and passenger luggage found within it.

Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the attack or the ongoing investigation.
