Tension gripped Kano on Friday as a heavy deployment of security operatives, including personnel from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), barricaded the entrance to the palace of Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano.
The motive behind the security presence remained unclear at the time of this report, leaving residents and palace insiders speculating on the reasons for the blockade.
Some palace sources suggested the move might be aimed at preventing the Emir from accompanying Munir Sanusi, the newly appointed Wamban Kano and District Head of Bichi, to formally assume his post in Bichi.
Others linked the situation to the Emir’s planned meeting with economists to deliberate on proposed tax reform bills.
The heavy security presence caused significant disruption, restricting movement in and out of the palace and leaving many residents questioning the true intent behind the action.
