A'Ibom Traditional Rulers Concerned Over Cult Clashes

The Council of Oro Traditional Rulers in Akwa Ibom State has condemned the recent spate of violent killings linked to clashes between the Baggar and Axe confraternities. This cult-related violence has escalated in the area, with tragic incidents, including the beheading of a 40-year-old secondary school principal in Oron, whose body was later taken to the Oron General Hospital mortuary.

Following an emergency security meeting held in Okobo Local Government Area, the council released a communique in Uyo on Friday, expressing their determination to impose traditional sanctions on the perpetrators to prevent further violence.

The communique, which was signed by prominent leaders, including the Council President Ahta Ita Edet Okokon, the Chairman of Urueffong Oruko, Matthew Unanaowo, Ogwong Okon Asukwo Abang, and Secretary Etim Oquong, underscores the council’s commitment to restoring peace and accountability within the community.

“All cult groups and affiliate families should henceforth sheath their swords,” the monarchs declared, urging security agencies to enhance their efforts in apprehending perpetrators of the dastardly act.

“The sanctity of human life must be respected, and those who disrupt peace in the land will face the consequences”, they added.
