Community lauds Mbah, accuses LP chieftain of masterminding protest against monarch

The people of newly created Enu Agu autonomous community, Akpugo in Nkanu West local government area of Enugu State, have lauded Governor Peter Mba for the rapid  transformation witnessed in the State since his assumption of office in May last year, particularly the PRODA-Nchatancha Nike Road, which was opening up communities in the Akpugo corridor for development and investment.

The community also expressed firm and unwavering support for their newly recognised traditional ruler, Igwe Sylvester Ikechukwu Nnaji and the town union executives.

However, President General of Enu Agu autonomous community, Mr. Ikenna Ogbodo has distanced the community from an alleged protest against their monarch and the town union to the Enugu State House of Assembly and the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs, saying the protesters were not members of the community.

A statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja by the community’s media office, alleged that the protesters were led by a Labour Party chieftain, Amaechi Ede  who was described as an impostor.

While calling on the State Government and members of the public to disregard the protesters and their requests, Ogbodo disclosed that the protest leader who contested and lost the Nkanu East/ West House of Representatives seat on Labour Party platform during the 2023 general election, was not from Enu Agu but Ogonogo-Eji Ndiagu Akpugo community, which is the mother community of all the autonomous communities in Akpugo.

According to him, the defeated politician attempted to coerce the monarch and the town union to do his bidding with regards to his unauthorised activities in the town, especially land dealings, and when they declined, he masterminded the protest against them.

The President General maintained that Enu-Agu was very calm and peaceful, stressing that members of the community were going about their lawful businesses without any form of agitation from any quarters whatsoever.

He said the man fomenting trouble in Enu Agu was a signatory to the constitution of Ogonogo-Eji Ndiagu Akpugo community where he belongs.

He explained that following the creation of Enu Agu by the immediate past administration in Enugu State, the people kick-started the process of electing a traditional ruler, which produced Igwe Sylvester Nnaji as the people’s choice.

Ogbodo said the people presented Nnaji to the local government, which in turn presented him to the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs and he was consequently issued a certificate of return as the monarch of Enu Agu.
