Governor Mbah Lauds Peaceful Enugu Council Elections

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has hailed the just-concluded local government elections in the state as a clear demonstration of democracy in action.

After casting his vote at Owo Ward in Nkanu East Local Government Area, the governor praised both the smooth electoral process and the impressive voter turnout.

Governor Mbah emphasized the significance of this election, the first local government poll under his administration.

“This is a major milestone for us. I am pleased to report that the election has been peaceful across the state,” he said.

According to the governor, voting started on time, and citizens exercised their rights in a calm and orderly manner, which he described as the essence of democracy. “This is exactly what we mean when we say power belongs to the people,” he added.

Mbah stressed the importance of local government elections, highlighting the critical role council leaders play in grassroots development.

“This process is crucial because we are choosing those who will implement programs and projects that will empower communities,” he noted.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining local government autonomy, stressing that local councils under his leadership have always operated independently of the state government.

“We have ensured that local governments in Enugu function autonomously, and we support them financially to empower the people and drive economic growth,” Mbah explained.

He also pointed to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling affirming local government autonomy as a validation of his administration’s efforts.

The governor praised the high voter turnout as a reflection of growing political awareness among the people.

“This participation shows that citizens understand how government policies affect their lives. They are choosing to engage in the democratic process to ensure they have leaders who will deliver meaningful programs,” he remarked.

Mbah concluded by reiterating his administration’s commitment to grassroots development, pledging continued support for local governments to ensure the delivery of projects that will uplift communities and improve the state’s economy.
