Ibadan Monarchs, Chiefs Hail IGP as Kinsman Becomes Lagos CP

The traditional institutions in Ibadan, including family heads (Mogajis), Baales, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), and traditional rulers, have commended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun for promoting Ibadan natives to the rank of Commissioners of Police.

The praise was particularly directed at the recent elevation of Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale, an indigene from the Alaadorin compound in Aremo, Ibadan, as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State. Olawale now serves as the 40th Commissioner of Police at the Lagos Command, succeeding CP Adegoke Fayoade, who has been promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police and redeployed to AIG Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade, Coordinator of the Ibadan Compound Peace Initiatives (ICPI), stated on behalf of stakeholders, noting that the development underscores the cooperative relationship between Ibadan’s traditional institutions and the Nigerian Police Force. The statement also recognized the promotion of five other Ibadan indigenes to Commissioner of Police roles, in addition to retired CP Fatai Owoseni, who now serves as Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on security matters.

The promotion of Ibadan indigenes to such prominent positions was described as a significant step toward community development and effective policing, demonstrating the IGP’s dedication to promoting capable and distinguished talent in law enforcement.

“Ibadan’s traditional system, known for its unique hierarchy and cultural significance, continues to play a vital role in promoting stability and growth in the region. The Mogajis, family heads, and Baales are essential components of this system.

“The elevation of Ibadan indigenes to Police Commissioners is a testament to the community’s growing influence and partnership with government agencies.

“As Ibadan continues to grow and develop, this collaboration will be crucial in shaping the city’s future,” the statement reads.

The statement however congratulated the new CPs, saying Ibadan people will celebrate them soon.
