Chairman of Aguiyi Ironsi International Market Traders Association, Chief Chukwuma Onyebinanma, has denied ever went into hiding to evade police arrest.
Onyebinanma who spoke with journalists on Monday at a press briefing his auto spare parts shop in the popular Ladipo Market and described the rumor of his hiding as a calculated attempt by the factional group to disrupt the market’s election.
He asked why would I hide when I didn’t commit any crime? stating that” “I’m not hiding from anyone.”
When asked about the market’s current state, he noted that all was well, with no violence or disruptions.He attributed the rumors of violence to opposition in an attempts to disrupt the election process.
“They want to enter the seat from the backyard, saying members won’t use Identity cards to vote. But that’s not how it works. Our constitution requires members to pay annual dues and obtain an Identity Card to participate in elections. The dues are N200 per month and N2,400 annually”, he stated.
Concerning the police invitation, he said he attended voluntarily and presented three Identity cards as an evidence.
He said: “The matter was resolved amicably, and he stated that there is peace in the market.So, why would anyone say I went into hiding when I’m here, going about my normal business?”
