Nursing certificate: FG plans upward review of verification cost, as portal opens

National President of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Michael Nnachi has said that the cost of verifying the certificate of nurses through the now opened portal, will be reviewed upward.

Nnachi who hinted that the clamour to get the portal reactivated by nurses and other stakeholders was finally heeded late Saturday night after series of meetings between the Federal Government officials and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

He said, “The portal was opened very late on Saturday. The Minister directed that it should be opened. There is intention to review the fee.”

According to him, the Council has faced pressure from various quarters, demanding the re-activation of the portal based on the ordeal many nurses face about verifying their certificates.

“We had to let the minister know what nurses are passing through over the verification of their certificates.”

He however said the current verification fee will be reviewed upwards.

While the current fee for Basic Nurses is N38.500 that of Basic Midwifery is N47.250.

On his part. the immediate past President of the NANNM Comrade Abdulrafiu Alani Adeniji lauded the development

Adeniji who is currently a fellow of the West African College of Nursing and Member National Institute (MNI) said nurses and stakeholders will await the functionality of the portal, saying it could take two more days for the portal to become active, considering that Monday is a public holiday.

Nnachi however urged those who require verification of their certificates to use the portal. “The truth is that it’s now opened for any nurse that needs verification to go and do it.”
