A fire broke out in a dormitory at Hillside Endarasha Academy, a primary school in Nyeri County, central Kenya, on the night of September 5. Tragically, 17 pupils lost their lives, and 14 others sustained injuries.
The exact cause of the fire is currently unknown.
Rescue teams are on their way to the school, and more details are expected to be provided by authorities shortly. According to reports, the fire caused severe burns to the students, making them unrecognizable.
President William Ruto has described the fire as “horrific” and “devastating,” and has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. A team of investigators has been dispatched to the school to look into the matter.
It’s been reported that there were over 150 pupils in the dormitory when the fire broke out, and it spread quickly due to the predominantly timber construction of the school buildings.
