Insecurity, economic hardship: Your govt clueless, incompetent, rudderless, northern group slams Tinubu

In the wake of a recent terrorist attack in Plateau State, prominent Christian groups in northern Nigeria have condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration, labeling it as inept and lacking direction.

After a two-day summit in Jos, Plateau’s capital, the Christian Youth Initiative (CYI) and Northern Nigeria Unity Initiative (NNUI) expressed deep frustration with the government’s handling of security and economic challenges. They urged the region to take control of its future, citing a breakdown in security and rampant poverty.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the groups decried the growing economic hardship under Tinubu’s leadership, highlighting that many Nigerians are now struggling to afford even a single meal per day.

The statement also criticized the recent spike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, which has reached a record N897 per litre. The move was described as callously “insensitive” to the suffering of ordinary citizens.

“The meeting aimed to promote inclusive, people-centered governance in the North and across the nation, while addressing the crippling insecurity and economic hardship affecting our country, particularly in our region,” the communiqué stated.

Participants condemned the government’s lack of urgency in tackling widespread issues like kidnapping, banditry, and the persistent farmer-herder conflicts, despite significant resources being allocated to combat these threats. They questioned why terrorists still dominate the social media space and continue their activities with impunity.

The groups further lambasted the Tinubu administration for its failure to address rising food prices and the high cost of basic necessities, which are leaving millions of Nigerians unable to secure even a single meal daily.

Adding to the grievances, the participants denounced the government’s decision to increase fuel prices, calling it a reflection of Tinubu’s administration’s detachment from the everyday struggles of Nigerians.

The undersigned organizations, in collaboration with notable figures from northern Nigeria, declared their intention to withdraw support from the current government. They called for a collective effort toward building a new Nigeria that prioritizes national unity over ethnic or regional divisions.

Attended by 150 representatives from 19 northern states, the meeting concluded with a call for opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Omoyele Sowore, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to unite in redefining the country’s future ahead of the 2027 elections.

The communiqué was signed by Rev. Dr. Samaia Joshua Asake, Evang. Aliyu Ibrahim, Eld. Mark Wosi, and Comrade Yunusa Suleiman.
