On Thursday, former National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Reverend Felix Omobude, urged the people of Edo State, particularly Christians, to actively participate in the forthcoming election. He emphasized that while prayers are important, the Independent National Electoral Commission counts the votes.
He encouraged citizens to use their Permanent Voter’s Cards to engage in the democratic process by electing a leader of their choice in the upcoming September 21 governorship election.
Omobude called on the people to vote for a credible candidate, reminding them that democracy allows citizens to choose their leaders, and this opportunity is now at hand.
He urged voters to show the world that Edo people are politically informed and not easily swayed by intimidation or influence from political godfathers.
Furthermore, he advised voters to evaluate the candidates based on their track records and merit, while offering prayers for peace throughout the electoral period.
In a broadcast, Omobude said, “My dear good people of Edo State, I greet you all wherever you are. Democracy offers us the opportunity to participate in the process of choosing who governs us. Such an opportunity is right on our doorstep, and I know that, especially in our faith community, we are praying for good governance, progress, and peace.
“And this is commendable, but unfortunately, INEC does not count prayer points; INEC counts votes. If you don’t have a voter’s card and have not registered, I urge you to do so and take advantage of the opportunity that democracy offers us.”
He added, “This time around, we must show the world that the people of Edo are knowledgeable and politically enlightened. No intimidation; do not allow yourself to be intimidated. Vote for your values and vote your conscience.
“We must also vote for a credible candidate who can move the state forward.”
