The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied responsibility for the inability of some Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
JAMB clarified that it has no authority or involvement in HND admissions, as its mandate is limited to undergraduate admissions and National Diploma courses. In a statement released on Monday, JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, referenced Section 5(2) of the Board’s established law, which explicitly excludes JAMB from overseeing examinations or selection processes for postgraduate courses or other tertiary institution programs.
JAMB further explained that while some students were admitted to National Diploma programs without its direct involvement, the Board only condoned and endorsed these admissions rather than overseeing them.
“Most of the students were reported to have been admitted into their institutions for the National Diploma without the knowledge of the Board. With this, the Board graciously condoned and endorsed the said admission for the ND programme, and that was the only relationship with such candidates.
“Their subsequent admission to HND is unknown and irrelevant to the mandate of the Board. As such, accusing the Board of issues it has no mandate over is preposterous.
“Some of these candidates have crossed the lines of criminality, which the Board will soon appropriately address,” the Board said.
