Nine Arrested for Open Defecation in Lagos

Officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have arrested nine individuals for engaging in open defecation in the Berger area of Lagos State.

The state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the arrests in a post on X.com on Saturday.

He stated, “9 individuals were arrested for open urination and defecation at Berger last night.”

Previously, Wahab reported that 17 people were arrested on Thursday night in the same area for open urination, defecation, and failing to use the pedestrian bridge.

The Lagos State government’s strict stance against open defecation is part of a broader initiative to promote a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for residents.

Additionally, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has started a cleanup of the Ojodu-Berger highway median as part of its efforts to eliminate open defecation in the area.
