Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to RB Leipzig on Saturday, marking their first loss in the German top flight since May 2023 and ending their 35-match unbeaten streak.
The match was marked by high drama, with RB Leipzig’s coach, Marco Rose, being sent to the stands in the first half. Leverkusen took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Jeremie Frimpong and Alex Grimaldo.
However, Leipzig responded just before halftime with a goal from Kevin Kampl, and Lois Openda equalized early in the second half. Openda then scored again with 10 minutes left, securing a comeback victory for Leipzig over the reigning league and cup champions.
