Senator Dino Melaye, former gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last Kogi State election, has cautioned security operatives against mistreating protesters.
Reports indicate that some Nigerian youths protesting the high cost of living have been manhandled by police and other security personnel. On Saturday, several protesters were allegedly shot in Kano State after the EndBadGovernance protest turned violent.
In a post on X, Melaye expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the security officers. He urged them to desist from such duties, emphasizing that the economic downturn affects everyone, including them.
The post reads, “We all go to the same market, same filling station, spend the same naira, police and other security agencies have no special market or special filling station.
“Treat the people with respect. After all, they are your cousins, brother, sister, sons, or relatives”.
