As the nationwide protests against bad governance continue into their second day, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged President Bola Tinubu to address the nation.
Speaking from his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State, Obi highlighted the importance of the President directly engaging with the public to address their legitimate concerns and help ease the rising tension in the country.
Refuting claims about his location during the protest after a video surfaced showing him in Abuja on the first day of protests, the former Anambra governor stated, “I am here in Onitsha; I can’t be here and be in Abuja.”
Highlighting the validity of the protesters’ demands, Obi stressed the importance of pursuing these issues through lawful means. “My appeal is for the President to come out and address the nation. He is the one elected by the people and holds their mandate. At such critical times, he should not rely on aides or appointees to communicate with the public,” he asserted.
Additionally, Obi expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the protests, as well as to those injured or, whose properties were damaged.
