Atiku, Obi sad over Iwuanyanwu's death

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party counterpart Mr. Peter Obi, have expressed shock at the death of the publisher of Champion Newspapers Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

In a separate condolence messages, the duo said Iwuanyanwu will be sorely missed.

Atiku in the statement he personally signed, said the name of the late elder statesman “was renowned for uprightness, firmness, and industry.”

He describe Iwuanyanwu as “an astute businessman, philanthropist and consummate politician,” and expressed sympathy to his immediate family and pray to the Almighty to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss of a patriarch.

“My condolences also go to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which he led with distinction until he breathed his last, and also the government and people of Imo State,” Atiku added.

Obi in a message posted on his X handle, said Iwuanyanwu was a bridge builder, and said he was greatly disheartened by his death.

“The devastating reports of his death have left all who knew him heartbroken, Obi stated, adding, “He was not just a father to many, but a bridge builder who remained committed to the peaceful coexistence of the nation.

“He was undoubtedly a deeply patriotic Nigerian whose desire for justice, equity, progress and development of the nation transcended tribal boundaries.”

The former Anambra State governor noted that Chief Iwuanyanwu was one of those revered father figures who have always given him useful advice.

“I recall visiting him at the hospital, on the 11th of this month with the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ambassador Okey Emuchey. He promised me that he would soon be alright, to continue with his contributions to the progress of the nation,” he said.

He expressed condolences to Iwuanyanwu’s immediate family, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and the entire nation over the death of this revered patriarch.
