In a tragic incident, the Gara of Chanchanji, His Royal Highness Tanimu Kunbiya, and his son, Yusuf, were killed by gunmen along the Takum-Chanchanji road in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State on Friday, July 19.
The attack occurred as the traditional ruler and his son were returning from a funeral event in Takum. The assailants ambushed their vehicle and opened fire, resulting in their deaths.
Confirming the incident, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas expressed profound sadness and condemned the brutal attack. He ordered law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
In a press statement issued by his media aide, Emmanuel Bello, Governor Kefas extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the Chanchanji community, and the entire people of Takum. He emphasized the need for increased security measures to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
“The loss of HRH Tanimu Kunbiya and his son, Yusuf, is a tremendous blow to the Chanchanji community and the entire state. We mourn with their family and pledge to do everything in our power to apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime,” the statement read.
The governor urged the residents of Takum to remain calm, assuring them that the state government would leave no stone unturned in its efforts to bring the criminals to justice.
